I haven't tried adjusting it since we got the new heads on, it was just running so nicely I didn't want to mess with it. He just looked at them and thought they were OK. The mechanic that did the rebuild did not replace the jets. If I am wrong, how is it done? I assume that you use the trial and error method to get the right jet? Check the acceleration, idle, spark plugs etc.? Is this correct?

To change the jet I have to remove the front bowl, unscrew the jet and install the new one. At idle it does lope a little ( if you check my bio you'll see the setup. It has great acceleration with no stumbling. I would then screw the idle screw inward until the engine started running rough then I would back it off until I obtained maximum vacuum, is this correct? Would and how would I use a vacuum guage to set the idle? Do I attach the vacuum meter at the base of the carb or at the upper suction tube that the distributor is connected to? The fuel level in the bowls are set correctly. I'll have to open up the carb to see what jets are in it. I wouldn't be surprised if he changed to a larger jet trying to get more out of the car. 531 lift in this engine and everything else was stock. I will check the jet to see if its a #65. With the info you posted, changing to "quick change" jets is not worth it.
